Guernsey Tomorrow Update

THE second phase of the States Guernsey Tomorrow project is launched later this month with the first of the next round of workshops.

People who were engaged in the first round have been invited to a workshop to get phase two under way on Tuesday 19 May.

Lead officer David Twigg, the States Strategic Planning Officer, said:
‘In round one we asked people to think about the main challenges and opportunities facing the island, and selected and prioritised the main issues.

‘Now we’re going to ask about the highlights of the first round and want people to come up with some ideas and possible courses of action for the future.

‘We’re moving to considering the places where things happen and how we can use the space we have on the island to meet our changing requirements.

‘The feedback we received from participants in round one was very positive and encouraging, and I’m sure the second stage will prove to be equally stimulating and worthwhile.’

Spaces are available to the public for the workshop at La Villette Hotel at 7pm on 19 May. They can register by calling on 717346 or by emailing enquiries@guernseytomorrow.gg

Further workshops will be organised for various interest groups during June, concluding with a meeting for all States Members and an open meeting for the public.

NOTES TO EDITORS:

More than 600 people took part in 13 workshops during phase one. All the results from the first round’s workshop events are available on the website guernseytomorrow.gg

A consultation document will be issued later this year and a preferred strategy presented to the States to make a final decision during 2010.
