Second Round of Workshops

The second round of workshops began on 19 May with a session involving 30 participants at the La Villette Hotel. Three sessions have now been held involving a total of 115 participants. The second session was at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, and the third took place at the Sixth Form Centre. These groups considered the main issues identified during the first round and the competing spatial requirements for the Island.

During the interactive meetings, delegates responded to 51 photographs of the Island, expressing their ideas about whether the subject depicted was ‘Good, bad, or Ugly’ and thoughts about what we in the Island should do in the future. In addition to these three sessions the ‘B4-8 Business Club’ also engaged in the ‘Good, Bad, Ugly’ exercise. Click here to view the image grid and delegates’ corresponding views.

Delegates were also given the list of 32 ‘Headline Issues’ established during Workshop 1. Click here to view the full list of these issues. From this list the group selected 8 ‘Headline Issues’ that they used to generate ideas about the way the Island should develop, choosing at least one issue from each theme. Each individual in the group became a ‘Champion’ of one of the selected Headline Issues and was given a ‘crib sheet’ for their issue where related issues and key facts that had already been identified were printed. This ‘crib’ sheet contained blank spaces for participants to add further related issues. Delegates were also invited to add their own issues to the full list of Round 1 issues.

Following this, participants used an ‘Island Map’ to articulate how their own ideas could be integrated with other land planning issues. After creating these maps groups established their ‘Key Action Points’ for land planning and then engaged in a ‘Carousel’ exercise. The latter involved each group in a particular workshop engaging with the land planning proposals formed by the other groups: identifying common ideas, conflicting ideas and innovative concepts that other groups may have come up with. Click here to view the island maps that each group produced as well as links to the identified ‘Key Issues’ and the responses to the ‘Carousel’ exercise.

At the ‘B4-8 Business Club’ meeting participants reviewed the ‘Island Maps’ and ‘Key Action Points’ that had been produced during the earlier three sessions. Click here to read more about and see what they did.
