Post 16 Search Conference
About 60 students (aged 16-19 years) from the Sixth Form Centre and the College of Further Education took part in a ‘search conference’ at the Performing Arts Centre on 14th November 2008. To begin with, the students were asked to identify the issues that were of most concern to them as individuals. They used sticky dots to mark their top 4 choices from the lists of Business, Community & Social, Functional and Environmental issues. They were invited to add any issues that were not already covered. To see the results of this exercise click on the following links: Business; Community & Social; Functional; and Environmental
For the next exercise, the students divided into seven groups. In their groups they jotted down the best things about being in Guernsey (The Good), the worst things (that can’t be changed) about being in the island (The Bad), and the things that most spoil the island and they would like to change (The Ugly). Finally, the students formed five groups. Each group had a themed discussion based on the top issues they had identified in the earlier ‘sticky dots’ exercise. You can see the main points to come out of their discussions by clicking here. To round off the conference the students participated in a plenary debate on the points raised during the session.
