First Round of Workshops

The first round incorporated 13 interactive sessions that took place between September 2008 and the end of March 2009. In total, these workshops involved 600 Islanders representing a wide cross section of groups, organisations, and ages (participants were between 9 and 90 years old). Each meeting brought together between 61 and 6 members of the public, with an average number of 35. In December 2008, there was a two day ‘public drop-in’ which 141 people took part in.

These workshops involved ‘The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’, where groups of participants wrote down the things that they thought were the best about Guernsey, the things they thought were the worst, and what they thought spoilt Guernsey the most which – in turn – they would like to change. Prior to the workshops, a range of 79 issues were identified and listed under the four themes of Business, Community & Social, Functional and Environmental. (Read about our issues in the Download section). During the ‘Sticky Dots’ exercise, each participant had 16 dots and placed a single dot against the four issues that they thought were most important for each of the four themes. To see overall the results click: Business, Community & Social, Functional and Environmental. The public were also invited to add any issues to these themes: click here to see the list of 59 issues that were added by participants.

Results from ‘Sticky Dots’ were incorporated into the subsequent ‘Top Trumps’ game, whereby the top eight issues from each ‘Sticky Dots’ theme were used to select the cards for two sets. One set of 16 cards corresponded with the Business and Community & Development themes, and the other set with the Functional and Environmental themes. Each group then played a trading game where they chose the 8 cards – out of the set of 16 – that they thought were most important. Click here to see the combined results from all of the events.

32 Headline issues have been identified using these ‘Top Trumps’ results. Click here to see these issues.
